Hair Salons For Sale
Buying and Selling Hair Salons
There are a few key factors that affect every hair and beauty salon purchase. These factors are the location, the build-out, look of the facility, and most importantly the employees and how they are paid. There are two main methods to running a salon one is by a commission pay structure based on the sales and the other is the chair rental method. Both of these methods can be successful. Paying stylists by commission can be successful if the salon has a lot of customers and does large volumes. It also allows the owner to have more control over the salon and their staff.
Salon owners using the chair rental method can be successful because they get consistent weekly rent checks from their stylists who many times are responsible for obtaining their own clients which may make marketing and payroll for the salon easier for the owner to manage.
It is also important when buying and selling a hair salon to be sensitive to the stylists who work there because the salon is their creative workspace and they do not want their workspace threatened because they feel it might affect their quality of work. The buyer and the seller need to address how to deal with the stylists and the employees early on in a transaction to avoid complications later on.
Hair salons many times sell based on multiples of earnings, but poorly performing salons can still sell to buyers who like the look and location of the facilities.
