Lawn services are one of the best businesses to purchase if a buyer wants a business that will be recession proof and inflation proof. This is because lawn care is something most home owners and property owners do not want to do themselves under any circumstances, and they want to have to buy the equipment either. In a hot climate like Florida’s, lawn and landscaping services are always in demand, the competition is high because there are low barriers to entry, but with high competition comes endless work available for hungry business owners. Every lawn service is different and that’s why prices of lawn services vary based on size, area, employees, profit earnings, and the owner’s role in the business.
If a lawn service is a one-person owner operating lawn service and it nets under $50,000 a year, it will typically sell for a ratio of .8 to 1.5 times the owner’s benefit also known as net profit. If a lawn service has an owner benefit or nets the owner more than $90,000 a year, has some employees, and the gross sales are higher than $140,000, the lawn service might sell anywhere from 1 to 2 times the owner benefit, depending on how clean the business records are. If the profits are extremely high, such as a net profit of $400,000 or more than the multiples may increase as well.
People do sell lawn service accounts or routes separately from their business, and these accounts typically do not sell for as much as an entire lawn business would sell for, but can typically sell anywhere from $100 to $1500 per account depending size, area, number of accounts sold together, and the length of time the account has existed.
